Capitals 2, Islanders 1 | Series tied 2-2 | Game Ron Santo Jersey 5 ThursdayGame 4 in a nutshell: In another devastatingly physical game, both teams scored in the last half of the first period before going on a long dry spell. Goalies and had a heck of a lot to do with that. In the end, the Capitals managed to get the win and even the series after scored the winner on a nice individual effort in overtime.Turning Point: Though both plays were penalties, s hits on and provided the Capitals some pushback. Both were rightly called as penalties and Wilson may have reviewed by the Department of Player Safety as Visnovsky left with injury, but that was a moment in which Washingtons snarl became a little more evident. The injury to Visnovsky was certainly an unfortunate result, but it was clear that Wilson impacted the game in that moment. Three things we learned1. Both goaltenders were sensational Bill Melton Jersey in this game, just as they were in the last one. Braden Holtby was pretty much the only reason the Capitals got to overtime in the first place. His 36 saves, including 28 through the first two periods kept his team in it when they needed him most. Though Jaroslav Halak will be saddled with the lo s, Bo Jackson Jersey he made some huge saves late in the game that helped bail his club out. Halak made 28 saves in the game and any concerns about him coming into the playoffs have been mostly alleviated.2. The Capitals are still getting off to slow starts. Though the Caps scored first, they were mostly out-played to start the first half of the game, if not longer. They allowed the Isles to pour 28 shots on net in the first two periods before things evened out in the third. In overtime, the Caps were the ones mostly controlling the play. If they can fix their starts and that may come with getting back to home ice their chances in this series will greatly improve.3. The physical toll this series is going to take on both teams is going to be tough to overcome in round two. The Islanders and Capitals are completely beating each other up. There were 88 hits recorded between the two teams in Game 4 according to the official scorer, 50 of those came from the Islanders. Robin Ventura Jersey This is the game both teams want to play, but its going to wear both down and they might be softened up a bit either by injury or just by fatigue when this thing is done. It sure is going to be fun while this series lasts, though. The patience from Backstrom is rather impre sive, but the shot just looked effortle s. You have to wonder if he had any thought that Matt Davidson Jersey shot was going to go in.
